Haversham & Updates

Hi Folks, it is the Inland Champs this coming weekend at Haversham SC, one of the traditional homes of the LN. Super lake venue very close to Milton Keynes, very easy to get too, just off the M40. Haversham always makes for a nice event, really nice little club, with a great little lake to sail on and plenty of room on and off the water. Do get along if you can for our last but one event of the year.     Rum and Mince Pie Talking of last events of the year, we have posted up the NORs for the Rum and Mince Pie at West Oxford SC. Always a great end to the season and as usual we plan to pop down the pub afterwards for a quick meal and bit of a social. Caroline has already booked the Windrush and reserved places for us. There is lots of local B&Bs if you want to stay over, The Laurels really is opposite the pub and a nice place to stay if you want to drive home in the morning. More Details: End of Season Meal Bristol Avon Open We had a super event at Bristol Avon, the first time the LNs have visited the club. they have a good sized home fleet and plenty turned out for the event. Winds were very light, but a good time was had by all. The race report is published and we’ll get the full results and series table updated later this week. Inclusion in the Open Series We have had a few queries about the open series and who gets included. The current class rules are fairly clear on the matter. Anyone can take part in a open event, class association member or not. They can win, or be placed, but they can not claim an association trophy unless they are a class member and their result will not be included in the open series tables. The nationals is also a CA members only event. This was agreed last year and used for the 2014 season for the first time. We do of course want people to take part and enjoy our events, but also be fair to class members who pay their annual subs. We think this is a fair approach for...

Series Results

Series Results Table has been updated following the nationals and NORs published for Haversham. We are having a first visit to Bristol Avon tomorrow, a super little river venue, between Bath and Bristol, easy to get too, just off the M4. Bristol Avon have a very good home fleet, and are very keen on transom rigged mains for the LNs, Rupert copied them for a tryout. We are on the water around 11:00, so if you can make it I know they will be pleased to see new visitors. Hope to see you there.

NATS Update

Well it’s over for another year, but what a super event we had 🙂 Absolutely great weather throughout the weekend, always enough wind to keep everyone moving on Saturday and some really great racing on Sunday in a good steady breeze. Pitsford does make the very best of light to moderate winds and this weekend proved that once again. 24 boats took part, with pretty much everyone sailing all six races. A couple could only make the Saturday or the Sunday, but if there, everyone sailed making for some really first class racing right through the fleet. We had experienced hands and newcomers alike, one of our best NATS for a good while in my opinion. AGM was the usual lighthearted affair. Simon Hopkins stays as chairman, Emma is taking on the Treasurers role and Jason volunteered to take up the Vice Chair position. We must also say many thanks to Sue Thomas for many years of sterling service as Treasurer for the CA who stood down this time. Other News Boats, we’ve had a real surge in boat sales these last few weeks, both the new designs from John with 402, 415 and 418 all in new hands and all sailing the NATS, and some of the older boats on the For Sale Page moving on to new owners. One of the key features of the Class is the competitiveness of older boats, which continue to make a great showing in the NATS and other events. New boats are of course very nice, but the older hulls still remain competitive, unlike many other classes. This is a real feature of the Lightning and one the CA and John C, the current builder, strives to...
