Our History

Our History

Hi Guys, Well Hibernation nearly over and its getting time to dust off the boats and think about getting out and about again. I missed the dinghy show, but everyone says it was another super event, with lots of interest on the stand. The events diary is fully up to date and out first event will be Up River on the 18th, 19th April. The 18th is a training day and the 19th the 1st open of the new season. So, if you’re looking for a bit of motivation, Caroline has been searching the class archives over the winter. We’ve uploaded two PDF archives looking at the history of the class mostly in pictures. There’s some fasinating pictures from the past, together with early class documents and adverts. I’m sure it will provides a few smiles πŸ™‚ You can find these pdf files at the bottom of this page:- Class...

Events Co-ordinator 2015/16 – Volunteers Please!

Events Co-ordinator 2015/16 – Volunteers Please!

I have now been the events co-ordinator for the last three years and have decided its time to pass the baton onto someone else. The role basically involves contacting clubs sailing secretaries and arranging the events calendar for the coming year. I have enjoyed doing this over the last few years and feel we now have a great format to following starting with a training day right at the start of the year, a core of traditional lightning clubs and events and a collection of new clubs which we can now alternate each year. As a committee post new volunteers for the post would traditionally be selected and sworn in at the AGM in September, however t speaking to clubs and arranging events is something which realistically goes on all year round and as most clubs sort out their next years calendars in September it’s a bit late to start then! Therefore I am looking for someone to volunteer before the start of the season so I can show them the ropes nice and early and with any luck the 2016 calendar will be well on its way to being completed by the time they officially get elected! If you would like to have a go and would like a bit more information please send me an email and ill get back to you. Regards Paul...

Web Site Updates

Web Site Updates

Hi all, Now the season has finished, we are having to do some updates to the website, which will slightly change its functionality. Most of these changes are quite minor, but one in particular will require a difference in use. The forum software has had a major upgrade and whilst the forum itself has greater scope and capabilities. The most recent posts no longer appear in the sidebar. To access the forum you now need to click the button in the main menu. Once on the forum home page, you will see dropdown menu and search fields to navigate your way around the forum and see the latest posts. By far the quickest way of looking for the latest updates is the dropdown box on the top right-hand side. However you can now also easily search the forum and the advanced search is very easy and effective to use. Changes have also been made to the access system. All the main menu items will now appear for everyone, but only CA members can actually access the CA Members area. If anyone has any problems then please drop me an email and I’ll try and sort them out as quickly as I...

The Rum and Mince Pie

The Rum and Mince Pie

Hi Folks, we are just a week or so away from our last event of the year now, the Rum and Mince Pie at West Oxford, on the 15 Nov. This is always a great end to the season and a very social event. For whatever reason it seems to be the event our newbies come along too and try their hand at Class racing for the first time. They all seem to enjoy it and find it all much more relaxed and friendly than expected. As is now tradition, we are off to the pub for a quick bite to eat and a chat after the racing, Caroline has booked the venue – The Windrush – in nearby Witney again a very informal and friendly affair, sailors, spectators, kids, all welcome. If you can come along Caroline would appreciate a quick note with numbers so she can keep the pub updated. Hope to see you...

Haversham Update

Haversham Update

Hi all, Haversham report and results posted, sorry I missed it, away with work again, but will be at West Oxford for the Rum and Mince Pie. Another great event, with the wind holding up for a good sail. The leaders stretching their margin, but still the top slot is open for a challenge at West Oxford. Robin has provided a very nice and amusing report on the event at Haversham, always worth a read. The next and last event of the season is West Oxford for the Rum and Mince Pie, on the 15th November and Caroline has booked the pub (the windrush) for a bite to eat...
