Me & ‘All the Gear’

Just some pics from racing at Manor Park recently. The smile suggests that ‘fun’ was more important than results……that’s my excuse and i’m sticking to it!...

National Schools Regatta

Day 1 So here is a quick update after Day 1. Disappointingly they the LN has suddenly become a fast handicap boat for this regatta so Matt and Stephen were sharing the line with Phantoms, Rs300, Rs200, Rs400, etc. Advice from LN coach (self promotion), try to get clear air and sail your own race. At least being the  slowest boats in the fast fleet, anyone they beat on the water was a result! Wind was a very erratic, 4-6 mph and from varying directions usually at the same time! Now by their own admissions in race 1 they “had not got a...

By the power of Erdinger!

Ooh, my head hurts. Really. “Buy this Eco-Glass for your beer” Said the man. “Only a pound and we knock off 20p each time you refill it”.  Didn’t take long to realise that 5pints pays for the glass….6 puts you in ‘beer-credit’ – on a sunny sunny day and with lots of music & fun at our local (free) music & arts festival, what’s a bloke to do??? Again, poor Emma gets to experience the “Won’t be home late!” delights of: “ive missed my buses and i have no...

The Fickles of Fate

I took absolutely no pleasure from the race win at Portishead at the weekend. I should have as it is a feat I have only achieved once before (at Weston) but I felt as if I had robbed it from Matt. Matt took the lead at the first mark and sailed away from the rest of us. When we were approachintg the final mark Matt was a good 30 yards ahead and I was in a lufifng duel with Caroline to try (unsuccesfully) to stop her getting water. What simpler than to tack and the short fetch to the line. Matt tacked then inside me Caroline tacked and when...

“She loves me? She loves me not?….”

I think choosing pink for 409 was a mistake. Well, not insomuch as her looks – she looks stunning on the water, as i always knew she would. HOWEVER, the colour has infused her with a diva-quality that, i doubt, even Shirley Bassey could match! At times – on a nice windy reach – she’s my favourite ever girlfriend (Sorry Emma…) at others? On a windy beat for example, she just hates my guts. It’s as if i’ve said: “No, you can’t watch X-Factor!!!” to a sleepover of eight 12yr...

Easter at Up River pt3 – final Installment

Well the 4 race Bank Holiday Cup became a one race showndown. Sunday morning with 18-20mph it was always going to be interesting. Only 3 boats stuipid/brave enough to go out, Matt and I in the LN and Dave in the Streaker. A sadistic Race Officer (LN sailor) set a beat all the way down River to Stowe post, there was meant to be a reach but it was just a fetch really. This took 38 minutes by my watch when I rounded about 200 yards ahead of Matt (too close). Dave was following on somewhere having discovered a new shallow bit whilst hugging the...
