Season Round Up so Far

So, things are progressing very well again this season, with next weekend seeing our annual outing on the sea, this year at Weston a new venue for our Sea Champs. Earlier in the year we have been to some super new venues at Fishers Green and Broxbourne, who have both made us very welcome. Some excellent sailing and sunny days made for some great opens, building nicely on our usual venues. Hopefully we will be able to return next year, I certainly hope so.

Weston Sea Champs

Next weekend, 23rd and 24th June sees us at Weston SC for our Sea Championships. Weston is located on Southampton Water, so yes, it is salty, but not what you would call Atlantic roller kind of sailing, more big river kind of stuff which suits us very well. Camping is available next to the club, for free and the club house has excellent facilities. You can pitch camp with car, boat and tent all next to each other, nothing could be easier. There is a forum thread running on the website and judging by the interest we looking at a good solid turnout. Lots more info on the website so I hope to see you there.

Next edition of FLASH

Rupert is putting the next edition of FLASH together as we speak and this issue is looking at Club sailing with the Lightning. As always Rupert is in need of content, so if you can pen a few words about Lightning sailing at your Club, what classes you sail against and how they perform, what your water is like, sea, river, big lake, small lake, the wild side of Essex, deepest darkest Wales, the valleys of Scotland etc, well you get the general idea. Rupert would really appreciate some help.

Boat Test - Yachts and Yachting

Yachts and Yachting did a boat test on the Lightning a few weeks back, with Pete Barton, Peter Conway and Robbie Claridge, charging about in the Lymington River on a real howler of a day. We have some great images and video of their exploits on the website, testing both the full rig and the new SR rig, you can clearly see how they compare. We are hoping they get to publish the test in one of the next few issues.

The Nationals are not too far away now, 18-19 August. Again this is a terrific weekend of sailing on the superb Pitsford Reservoir at Northampton, who always make us very welcome. Excellent facilities, free camping and great sailing in a really pretty setting. Again lots of chat about the Nats means we are looking at a good strong turnout. This year we are going to do some team prizes, pairing up the gold fleet with lesser mortals, so lots of one2one coaching on the water will be in evidence. What better way to get free one2one coaching, so whatever your standard do think about coming along, it is a great way to improve your sailing skills in a very friendly environment.
