Welcome to another issue of Flashbytes, Quite a lot happening on the Lightning front, so time for another little FlashBytes update.
Yachts and Yachting Boat Test
Firstly, the new edition of Yachts and Yachting has an excellent boat test of the Lightning 368, with both the Standard and SR rigs on show. Many thanks to John Claridge who supported the review with boats and rigs down in Lymington. Robbie Claridge sailed with Pete Barton and Pete Conway in the test sails, in some very blustery conditions. There is some excellent footage of the sailing on the Website Video Page.

Our next open event is on Saturday 14th July at Cookham Reach SC, on the Thames near Maidenhead, with easy access from the M4. Cookham is a great little club, with interesting water. Sailing on the river provides some new challenges to contend with, but is really fun. They have a nice big home fleet so there is always a good turnout and lots to see, as well as some very pretty walks along the river bank.
Then we are off to North Norfolk Week with Class Starts at Hunstanton on the opening weekend. A good few Lightnings will be there all week, so pop along anytime, even if you are not sailing and watch the action.

With just five weeks to go to our Nationals, the mirco-site is again up and running with stronger entries than ever this year. There is also a thread in the Forum chatting about everything Nationals. Northampton SC is a super club on Pitsford Reservoir. With a great clubhouse, FREE overnight camping and space for everyone, Lightning sailing does not get better than this. It really is a fun weekend folks.

I hope most people know, we hold the Class AGM on the Saturday evening at the Nationals Event. We have to hold such a meeting, but I can assure you it is very informal and normally involves a glass of wine, or a beer or two during the proceedings, and lots of good humour. That said, it is of course an opportunity to discuss progress and what we might do next. We’ve had a couple of very successful years in the Class so we’ll try and keep that going. Details are on the website, so do pop along if you can, it is a surprisingly good evening.

National Schools Sailing Association Championships (NSSA)
Matt and Stephen are once again competing in the National Schools Sailing Association Championships, which this year is to be held down in Weymouth at the Olympic venue. Another opportunity to show what a Lightning can do, we wish Matt and Stephen every success. Again there is a thread running in the Forum on the event and hopefully we will get day by day updates as last year.
