Welcome to another issues of Flashbytes and wishing everyone a happy and successful 2012.
Subscriptions and Stuff
Sorry to start with bad news, but it is subscription time again. Yes we want your money, but only sixteen pounds which gets you full Class Association membership. We hope you agree this is good value, with a very supportive Class Association, lots of help and advice to hand, a good and frequently updated website with lots of on-line resources, quarterly newsletters in both paper and electronic formats, a good race series and many other little bits and pieces. Please show your support and renew or join the CA, it all helps support and maintain the Class.
You can find further details and membership information here: MEMBERSHIP INFO
Christmas Presents and all Things Lightning
Well, with the new SR Rig and new Rudder Blade John had lots of goodies on offer as Christmas Presents, the new Rudder Blade proving particularly popular. If you have still to order yours, then check out the links here: NEW RUDDER BLADE NEW SR RIG

The RYA Dinghy Show
Once again we have a stand and the RYA Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace, on the 3rd and 4th March and would be delighted to see you all. As well as picking things up from stands at the show, John can normally bring with him anything you might have pre-ordered, even larger items like sails and covers.
You can find more details about our stand and the show in general here: RYA DINGHY SHOW
Noble Marine Sponsorship
Once again I am pleased to be able to tell you, Noble Marine will sponsor our Inland Championships at Haversham SC on October the 13th. This sponsorship is a very welcome additional source of funds and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Noble Marine for their continued support: NOBLE MARINE INSURANCE SPONSORSHIP
2011-2012 Event Series
The new events schedule is posted up on the website and is also available as a down-loadable year
planner in Microsoft .doc format, which you can update with your own events and print as needed. We
update both the schedule and the planner as the year progresses and it is here you will find the
Notice of Racing and the Sailing Instructions for each event as they become available from the
Bloody Mary Pursuit Race
As in previous years, we try and get a few boats out to the famous Bloody Mary pursuit race at the Queen Mary Reservoir, just off the M25 near Staines.
This year the race is on Saturday the 7th January, entry is fifteen pounds for pre-entries, twenty pounds
on the day. This is a super event for a bit of winter racing and if the weather stays mild makes a great day
out on some superb water with good spectating.
Did You Know?
The first prototype Lightning took to the water in the summer of 1977 at West Oxford SC. Prototype LN01 was slightly modified that year, with a flatter transom and other minor changes to the hull shape and the first production boat LN11 was produced in 1978 which Mark kept and sailed for many years. LN02 thru LN10 were not built, being reserved for further development work.
LN12 is still sailing regularly at Haversham SC and as far as I know is the oldest Lightning still in regular use.
