Class Update

Well hello again and my apologies for not getting a Flashbytes out to you all earlier in the season, we have been busy as a committee with events, boats and all manner of ideas and concepts to further both the Class and the boat. Hopefully We have had a busy and successful start to the season, with some very strong turnouts and new helms attending opens for the first time. Some of the new venues have proved very popular and we continue to work on the programme to provide variety and different sailing conditions to suit all tastes. The next event is Fishers Green, an old LN venue, which we have started to return too. Following that event it is the NATS and this year we have moved the event to September to clear the main holiday season. There are more details about the NATS below.

Boats and Stuff

Boats continue to sell apace, with John turning out more new boats all the time, both LN416 and LN417 appeared for the first time at Cookham. Most second-hand boats continue to sell quickly and many now sport the latest mods like the mainsheet pod, rather the the thwart. New designs of the rudder and centreboard are now available, a new radial cut Dacron sail and improvements to the mast and rig. The new SR small rig is gaining popularity too.

Although these are new, mostly to replace unobtainable parts, great care has been taken to ensure there is no performance advantage in the new mods. Older boats remain very competitive, just look at the series table on the website to see what I mean.

The Nationals

The NATS are slightly later this year, on the 14th and 15th September to clear the holiday period. The venue is once again Northampton SC, who have some super water at Pitsford. Overnight camping is available free and you can sail on the Friday if you turn up early. The NATS is a really enjoyable event for helms of all abilities. The back of the fleet have a lot of fun, whilst there is very high quality racing at the front. Full details on the website and if you want any more details then just post a note on the Forum.

The AGM and Committee Nominations

We always hold the AGM on the Saturday evening of the NATS event. This year we have a couple of committee roles coming up. I am standing down as chairman at the AGM, having held the role for the last four years. I am not going anywhere and will continue to manage the website and help the committee, but good governance suggests it is time to have a bit of a swap around. Lee is also standing down as the vice chair. These are not difficult or time consuming roles, so if you feel like helping out I know the rest of the committee would welcome some new faces. You can find more details about the roles and the nomination forms on the website here.
